Whole Wheat Bread Made with Sugar

Makes 24 servings

 

Ingredients
  • 3 cups warm water ¾ cup sugar ½ cup margarine, melted 1½ tsp. salt 1 egg 2 packages active dry yeast 5 cups whole white wheat flour
  • 3½ cups white flour

Preparation In a large mixer bowl, combine water, sugar, margarine, salt, egg, yeast, and about half of flours. Beat 3 or 4 minutes with a mixer. Let rest for 10 minutes. Knead, adding flour needed to make dough easy to handle. Cover and let rise until doubled in size. Punch down and let rise again. Punch down and form into 3 loaves. Place into 3 greased 9- x 5- x 2½-inch pans. Cover and let rise until double in size. Bake at 400°F for 10 minutes, then lower temperature to 350°F and bake another 15 to 25 minutes.
