This Veterans Day, the Home Baking Association is proud to highlight the incredible efforts of our partners and members who are using the power of baking to make a positive impact on the lives of veterans and their families. It’s inspiring to see how both current and future baking industry leaders are finding innovative ways to give back to their communities, support veterans’ initiatives, and create meaningful opportunities for those who have served. We are thrilled to showcase two stories that reflect the heart and dedication of the baking community in support of our veterans.
K-State Bakery Science Students: Baking to Support Veterans’ Mental Health
At Kansas State University, bakery science students are making a difference in veterans’ lives through their involvement with Valor Honey, a veteran-led nonprofit that uses beekeeping to benefit veterans. This multi-faceted program helps K-State’s bakery science students perfect their craft while also learning how honey can support both the flavor and texture of baked goods. And students from K-State’s Entomology Department are helping veterans learn the art of beekeeping, empowering them to harvest honey and build stress and anxiety management skills.
The K-State team is making a lasting impact with their efforts. As they blend innovation with a commitment to service, these students are demonstrating how baking can be a powerful tool for building community and empowering veterans. Read more here…
King Arthur Baking & Dog Tag Bakery: Empowering Veterans Through the Art of Baking
Another story that fills us with pride this Veterans Day is the ongoing partnership between HBA member King Arthur Baking and Dog Tag Bakery. King Arthur is graciously donating flour to Dog Tag Bakery, a nonprofit dedicated to helping veterans and military families rediscover purpose and find community through the art of baking. This partnership allows Dog Tag Bakery to continue offering life-changing training and employment opportunities to veterans as they transition to civilian life, all while providing delicious pastries made with love and care.
Dog Tag Bakery’s mission is to give veterans the chance to learn new skills, find a sense of purpose, and become part of a supportive community. By using baking as a means of empowerment, Dog Tag Bakery is helping veterans build careers, forge lasting relationships, and contribute to their communities in meaningful ways. King Arthur’s generous donation of flour plays a vital role in making this possible.
We encourage everyone to support Dog Tag Bakery this Veterans Day and beyond—whether by making a donation, ordering a holiday gift box, or visiting the bakery in Washington, D.C. Every act of support helps further the mission of empowering veterans through baking. Learn more and get involved here
Baking with Purpose: A Community Effort
Both of these stories are powerful reminders of how baking can transcend the kitchen and become a force for good, creating connections, fostering health and wellness, and opening doors to new opportunities. As we reflect on the courage and sacrifice of our veterans this Veterans Day, we are deeply grateful for the incredible organizations and individuals who are using their skills and resources to give back to those who have served. Let’s continue to stand together and show our support for these organizations, for our veterans, and for the power of baking to create change.
Happy Veterans Day to all who have served!
