Kansas Educators Gather for Inspiring Bake to Give Workshops at FCS Conference

Family and consumer sciences (FCS) educators from across Kansas came together in Wichita today for two hands-on Bake to Give workshops at the United Associations FCS Conference. With over 125 extension agents, classroom teachers, and university faculty in attendance, 62 enthusiastic educators joined Sharon Davis, HBA FCS Baking Educator, to explore the power of baking as a tool for education, entrepreneurship, and community service.

Thanks to sponsorship from Kansas Wheat, participants gained access to valuable HBA and Kansas Wheat resources—both during the conference and through post-event sharing via Google Docs and peer-to-peer networks. The impact is far-reaching: each educator influences an average of 150 student families, while extension professionals support thousands of consumers across Kansas communities.

The Bake to Give workshop equipped 63 teachers with engaging materials to bring baking, culinary skills, and entrepreneurship into their classrooms. Attendees also got to sample the Designer Oatmeal Cookie from the 2024 Kansas Wheat Recipe Book—a delicious highlight! Every copy of the book was eagerly claimed, and demand for the QR code to order more was high.

This year’s event underscored the vital role of baking education in shaping young minds, fostering creativity, and strengthening communities. With new resources in hand, these educators are ready to inspire the next generation of bakers and entrepreneurs!

The United Associations Conference (UAC) brings together Family and Consumer Sciences professionals from education and extension for a time of learning, connecting, and neighboring. Family and Consumer Science students, professionals and advocates will gather in Wichita at the Sedgwick County Extension Education Center on February 27-28, 2025.
