These cookies are a fun and creative way to provide a healthy dose of antioxidants for your dogs. The cinnamon and ginger provide unique antioxidants not found in commercial foods while the molasses provides sweetness and a healthy dose of vitamins and minerals.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup chicken stock or water
  • 3 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1/3 cup molasses
  • Non-stick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees
  2. Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  3. Add broth, vegetable oil and molasses to dry ingredients and stir until fully mixed. (wipe inside the measuring cup for the molasses with a little of the oil first to prevent the molasses from sticking.)
  4. Spray a cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray.
  5. Roll dough out on a lightly floured surface to 10”x10”.
  6. Cut with a gingerbread man cookie cutter and place onto cookie sheet, separated by ½ inch. Roll remaining dough and cut with a knife to make pouches and shoulder straps.
  7. Bake for 25 minutes or until crisp and dry.
  8. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet, then store in an airtight container for up to one week or in the freezer for up to 2 months.
  9. Tip: The dough could be cut in squares if no available cookie cutter.
