Have you heard of the Dog Tag Fellowship Program in Washington DC? On the surface it’s a bakery and coffee shop offering a beautiful space for locals to meet, and delicious treats to share. But there is more than meets the eye as this business is changing lives for Veterans and their families.
The first floor of the building is the bakery and coffee shop where scratch-made baked goods are shared with the community. But the bakery helps support the training center upstairs. Dog Tag runs several five month business and entrepreneurship-focused training programs each year for veterans with service-connected disabilities, as well as military spouses and caregivers. The training facility connects participants with the skills, resources, tools and networks needed to help discover renewed purpose outside the military with a focus on professional aspirations, personal growth, wellness and community. They work in the storefront bakery making coffee, serving pastries and managing the register, but they also learn about accounting and marketing… just as if they are already running a successful small business themselves.
Empowering the Lives of Veterans & Military Families
This amazing bakery and training center is just another reminder of how we as bakers can bake for good, and bake to change lives. To learn more about Dog Tag Bakery, visit their website at DogTaginc.com. Be sure to check out their Instagram feed as well… there are many yummy desserts to check out!
